On Drinking Well
Anacreon
The black earth drinks;
and the trees, in turn, drink the earth.
The sea drinks the rushing streams;
the sun drinks the sea,
and the moon drinks the sun.
Why do you quarrel with me, friends,
when I too wish to drink?
